What is BILETA?

BILETA was formed in April 1986 to promote the use of technology in legal education throughout the UK and Ireland.  It:

• promotes research projects
• supports the development and distribution of software - such as from the Law Courseware Consortium
• provides information on technology in law developments
• supports the publications of the UK Centre for Legal Education
• supports relevant research publications such as the Journal of Information, Law and Technology and the Electronic Law Journals Project
• organises the annual BILETA conference
• makes representations on technology and law through the production of written reports
• liaises with the Association of Law Teachers and the Society of Legal Scholars and other academic organisations and professional organisations such the Society for Computers and Law . Such organisations are not limited to the UK and Ireland, but include those such as CALI in the US, or Jurix in the Netherlands

The 2010 BILETA conference (the 25th anniversary) will be hosted by the Vienna Center for Legal Informatics on 29-30 March 2010.  Early submissions and suggestions for streams (including convenors) are welcome:

• Deadline for early submissions: 31 October 2009
• Deadline for late submissions: 15 January 2010
• Accepted papers will be published: 15 December 2009 (early submissions)
• Accepted papers will be published: 31 January 2010 (late submissions)
• The final programme will be available in January 2010
